The Pawns

Pawns are powerful little soldiers. Their range is limited, but there are so many of them that if you use them together they can become a real force. Listen closely. A pawn can move two squares forward on their first move, and their first move only. After that, the pawns can only move one square forward. Pawns can only capture diagonally, or to be more specific, one square in the diagonal direction.

Try it out!! Open the chess applet and switch to setup mode. Place a pawn on the board and then switch back to play mode. You'll notice that on the first move you can move the pawn forward twice, but after that, you can only move it forward once.
